The sun is finally peaking through these days. The amount of rain fall reminds me of the year John was born. It rained almost everyday from late January through early April. Strange weather events always seem to follow John. When he was diagnosed there was a freak thunder and lightening storm that blacked out most of Berkeley and Albany. When he went to the hospital for his first transplant it snowed in Berkeley and on Mount Tamalplias. The was the roasting heat and fires for his second transplant and now the year of his passing more rain than we know what to do with.
About a week and a half ago Jen had to put Little Stewart to sleep. He was born with bad kidneys and finally they gave out. Stu is the little pug with John on the front page of the web page. It is really hard to go to Jen's house and not have Stu asking for a treat. I do know he is with John. When Jen said it didn’t look like he was going to make it another day I told him to make sure he finds John and to have John send me a sign he made it. The day Stu was put to sleep a watch John gave me, but no longer worked began to work and was set exactly to the right time. It stopped again about 24 hours later. I feel that was the sign.
I had a walk and a dinner with one of John’s fabulous Alta Bates nurses the other day. Siobhan is such a jewel. And it was helpful to talk to someone who knew John from a physical stand point as well as a friend.
I am off to Hawaii tomorrow morning. I am excited, but apprehensive since most of the time I have a pretty hard adjustment time coming back to reality. I have some friends house/cat sitting. I wasn’t sure if they would be comfortable with John in the house so I asked Jen to watch him for me. It does comfort me that someone who really loves John will take care of him for me while I am away. Of course I hope I have signs that John is taking a minute or two and joining me in Hawaii.
