Lately I have had a line from a cartoon the boys watched as children running through my mind: By the power of Grey Skull. My friend and mentor on how to be a great mother, Marcia, is going to Hawaii and run/walk the marathon for the Leukemia Society. She asked for a picture of John to help give her strength to help her finish the race and that is when the phrase began to circle inside my head. When John and Scott were little they would run around the house holding up their little fists and call out "By the power of Grey Skull" to give them an extra edge. I gave Marcia three pictures, one I call AL (after leukemia), and two others, BF (obviously before leukemia). The one I love the best is the picture of John, 3 years old standing as tall and erect, chest puffed out with a broad smile. It really captures the power of John before life began to take its inevitable toll, when he did believe he had the power of Grey Skull.

This morning Scott will take the LSAT's and I pray for him to allow the Power of John guide him to a score he will be proud of. I ask that the power of John lift Marcia to finish the race next week, and count on the power of John to keep me trudging along even though my soul constantly screams for him to return to me.
