Day + 135 A quick note before I go to bed...Today Dr. Wolf called to let me know that the CMV virus is responding to the extra anti-viral drugs and his last test was negative!! Yeah. John will go to the cancer center and get one more test to verify that it is continuing to be negative and by Tuesday we shall know what is going on. Dr. Wolf knows how worried I have been especially since John has been so tired lately that he felt it was important to to call and let John and I know what is going on, even when it is good news. Funny over the last few years I have been trained if I hear the doctors voice to expect bad news, yet our hero Dr. Wolf insists on calling with the good news too.
John is doing well at school, had a low key birthday, but he is still trudging on like a champ. All I can say is I am very grateful he is my son and how proud I am of all his tenacity to survive.

Day+132 John is off to school this afternoon. He is a bit nervous about having to return, not knowing anyone, again, but he only has 5 more classes. Today's appointment was much he same as it has been. His platelets continue to fluctuate and are down to 152 today. His hemoglobin is still down so we have to go back to the weekly epogen shots, but his absolute neutraphils were up which means he is not as immune compromised as he has been.
These test results are what is expected after a bone marrow transplant, actually even better than most. The only snag is the pesky CMV that is not responding to the extra doses of the anti-virals. John will go in Friday for another culture and by then hopefully they will have today's results, and hopefully today's results will be better than last Wednesdays. John certainly seems to have a bit more energy.
John's next appointment with Dr. Wolf is on Tuesday. Should be another uneventful week.
