Day + 153 Yesterday John's appointment at the cancer center went really well. John's liver enzymes went way down so we are no longer worried about GVH of his liver. I told Dr. Wolf it was birthday celebration (just kidding John does not drink because it would be unwise with the medications he takes and he is very serious about his recovery). I have learned in this process not to question the "why" of things and embrace the positive events. This means John gets to go totally off prednisone! He was on such a small dose, but to have him off another medication is great.
The CMV still lurks, but it is being managed well with the anti-viral and hopefully by next week that medicines dose will be cut in half. His platelets continue to drop, they were down to 134, but Dr. Wolf thinks it is due to the increase in the anti-viral since it has steadily been dropping (however slowly) since the increase in the Valgangcyclovir. John's hemoglobin is up slightly with the help of Epogen to 12.1 and his white cells are still holding strong.
John got a nice note from the donor asking for another update so today John is shopping for a card to send to him. I think he should wait until this weekend and send him a card from Las Vegas where he and his best friend James will go. John will be burning up the blackjack tables at the Luxor Hotel and attending the Blue Man show. Dr. Wolf and he think this is a great plan and I am going to hold my Rosary beads and try not to worry. I know that it is silly to worry as John needs and deserves a vacation...but that is my job, someone has to do it.
Lastly, I am not sure I mentioned the big news. John is moving out by April 1st to his own place. He will share a small two bedroom duplex (Thank you so much Roland for helping us find the place) on Masonic a few blocks away. I am truly thankful that life does go on in spite of a leukemia diagnosis.
